Forager School Adventure Camp
After School Enrichment and School-Age Break Programming
Outdoor programming for school-aged children ages 5-8.
The outdoor enrichment curriculum seeks to provide a student-centered, creative arts focused learning experience in the unique natural environment of the Mendonoma coast. Adventures include exploration of local natural ecosystems and immersive arts focused host-sites such as The Gualala Arts Center, Mendocino Stone Zone, Oz Farm, Stillman Family Campground, Mar Ecological Reserve, Point Arena Lighthouse, and local state parks ranging from Southern Sea Ranch to Manchester, CA.
The essence of this program is to support children in developing an intimate and deep-rooted understanding of their role as stewards and protectors of the natural world, with an emphasis on creative-problem solving, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.
With every excursion, Adventure Camp students are immersed in the knowledge of our world’s interdependent ecological systems and provided with fun and engaging opportunities to practice an ethic of care and respect for the natural world. Exposure to the planet’s natural rhythms and patterns, from those of the clouds moving toward the ocean to the sheen left by the resident banana slugs, provokes discussion and query that is transformed into the children’s creative process and art outcomes.
