Spring at Forager- A Recap from Our Founding Director

What a remarkable spring and second semester! It’s hard to believe our first school year is nearly over. The ‘celebrations’ theme of February was chalk full of creativity and joy - whether we were gathering ‘round the mushroom carpet for a student birthday, exchanging handmade love notes on ‘friendship day,' singing !Dale Dale Dale! (The Piñata Song) surrounding our own handmade heart-shaped piñata, or marching and moving underneath our recycled material Lunar New Year dragon puppet! The spirit of play and friendship gives way to celebration each and every day we cross the threshold into our classroom.

March & April themes brought blooms of spring inspiration and earthly eco thinking into our midst - with an unforgettable visit to Frog Song Farm and Gardens, leading to a deep dive into gardens, seed planting, tending, and eco-conscious earth day explorations. Students cared for campus grounds (‘our special slice of earth’) by collecting trash and adding mulch and watering plants, and with the collected trash we conducted pollution experiments to see how a mini ocean habitat inside a mason jar became completely uninhabitable or ‘too yucky and mucky’ for sea creatures to thrive. To honor the earth students worked together to prepare a delicious and nutritious ‘ECO Lunch’, made up of all their favorite fruits and veggies - students enjoyed eating every color of the rainbow alongside yummy local Pelican Bakery coastal sourdough! With just a handful of weeks left, students will honor their families with a Forager School restaurant experience, a handmade ‘Parent Breakfast’, and begin preparations for our end of year performance and graduation ceremony!

We are beyond excited to welcome an expert team of summer program educators, drawing from early elementary outdoor education, environmental sciences, and nature-based expressive arts backgrounds. With a few local familiar faces and some new members to the community, please keep an eye out for more information regarding our summer curriculum and team. Come and play with us next Friday for our final family day festivity - looking forward to opening our fall enrollment soon!

Thank you for all the continued support and enthusiasm - we are so happy to be here!

With Care,
