Forager Goes to Frog Song !

Expectations of Spring were exceeded at Frog Song Farm and Gardens! Our Frog Song mother-daughter hosts/garden experts (Di and Sandy Scott) offered Forager students the quintessential spring garden experience. We toured a breathtaking variety of horticulture landscapes, learned about plant identification and garden infrastructure (including a compost processing system, solar energy system, fertilization/rainwater collection trout pond, citrus hoop house, free range chicken coop + baby chicks, rare succulent/cacti propagation greenhouse) to name just a few highlights!

Students enjoyed play in a ‘goofy garden’ Sandy designed for her grandchildren, crafted from recycled materials (Di’s old half broken surfboards, pieces of forgotten ceramics, retired and random bits and bops transformed into semi-living plant sculptures adorned with wind chimes and hidden treasures) it was an optical/olfactory feast! Students were able to move freely and immerse themselves in this area of the garden - what a delight to greet Sandy’s wild creations hands on!

This field trip marked a generational moment for me (Adela) as I grew up just up the road from Frog Song and had the privilege of frequenting the gardens as a child - such a blessing to share the wonder and beauty of this land with our Forager students! Lastly, it is worth noting that students did a phenomenal job “letting the plants grow”. This was not a foraging field trip, we did not bring our baskets, and it made me super proud to see our students demonstrate their comprehension of this important principle. Gardens are nurtured with a tender hand and appreciated with sight and smell! Thank you Di and Sandy, and all the exceptionally talented hands that go into keeping Frog Song thriving and beautiful!
